Who pays for the AI boom? Plus, a new way to find your next startup job

Hi friends,

This week brought another wave of enormous AI funding rounds, new products and questions about who will earn a return on all that spending. Anthropic’s IPO preparations offered a glimpse into the economics of frontier AI, OpenAI reportedly moved closer to another $30 billion raise, and DeepSeek’s roughly $15 billion round underscored the global scale of the competition. Meanwhile, Claude Duet’s launch and OpenAI’s Google Cloud partnership showed how quickly the race is moving from model capabilities to customers and distribution.

For venture investors and founders, there’s a tension worth watching: It’s no longer just founders optimising for the next round. It’s VCs saying “will a Tier 1 want this at the A,” which is front-running a perceived mark, not partnering for business building, as Founders Fund's Micah Ronsenbloom noted.

In Israel, next week’s election is bringing thousands of citizens home from abroad to vote. Alongside that commitment to participation, this week’s #FIRGUN celebrates founders raising capital, completing acquisitions and continuing to build. I’m also launching IsraelVC Jobs, a new resource for discovering Israeli startups and exploring opportunities at their teams in Israel and internationally.

The Weekly Dispatch Top posts from this week Hi friends, Another week, another multibillion-dollar Israeli tech deal. Varonis has agreed to be acquired by Proofpoint for $6.3 billion in cash, while Amazon is reportedly in talks to acquire Decart for around $7 billion. Alongside the headlines, I’ve been thinking about where the next generation of founders can build lasting businesses as AI changes both the infrastructure we rely on and the work we do. It was a week of firsts and seconds....

The Weekly Dispatch Top posts from this week Hi everyone, Writing from San Francisco today, where there’s an infectious optimism around tech and AI. There’s a feeling that the future is being created right now, and that this city is at the centre of it. It’s a refreshing change of perspective. This week also marked three years since October 7. We remember those murdered, the suffering of the hostages and their families, and the communities still rebuilding. One image from those first days...

Flydubai heroic

The Weekly Dispatch Top posts from this week Hi everyone, This week’s most remarkable story was about people stepping forward under extraordinary pressure. The captain, crew and passengers who helped avert catastrophe during the attempted hijacking of a flydubai flight bound for Tel Aviv deserve enormous recognition. As we approach the third anniversary of October 7, their courage feels especially poignant. In tech, Israel closed September with $2.77 billion raised across 28 rounds, according...
